So many times in life we face things we don’t know how to do. Even when it comes to our walk with God, we may want to grow but simply don’t know how. In this blog, I want to share two important things believers must learn to do in order to grow. They are first, to renew our minds and secondly, to develop spiritually. Although neither is difficult, they both will take continued attention from us in order for us to grow. In this blog we will deal with the first, renewing our minds. Mind renewal is certainly an important part of our Christian walk because it plays a vital role in our spiritual development. Romans 12:2 tells us, “and be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”So, let’s take a look at what it means to renew our minds.
- Renew means to change or exchange our way of thinking for God’s way of thinking.
- Renew means to retrain our minds to think in line with God’s Word.
- Renew means to think God’s thoughts about anything.
To do this, we will have to know what God’s thoughts are concerning any subject. The good news is we can, and we do this by knowing His Word. Once we know what His Word says concerning something, we are to then think that way about it. We change our old way of thinking about things for His new way. That means when we find God thinks a certain way about anything, we are to begin thinking that same way. That’s what renewing our mind is about. Now notice what Romans 12:2 says will happen when we work this process in our lives. It says our lives will be transformed, that means totally changed. God is telling us in order to change how we live; we will have to first change how we think. That is the power of renewing our minds and it’s the first step in our spiritual development.
